This is Blessing. We met him only briefly one afternoon at the Princess Alice Adoption Home in Johannesburg more than 30 years ago. But I immediately thought of him – and all of the other babies or adults with typical African names that sound not necessarily weird but unusual to European ears.

I met more than one Beauty and a couple of Precious’ (women) and one Passmore and one Wisdom. Currently I have a new student in my class from Nigeria, she’s called Favour.
