Getting a Basket

Debbie had an odd square today about what it means if your potential in-laws present you with a pumpkin. It reminded me of an expression we use in Germany: giving someone a basket or, on the receiving end, getting a basket. It’s the equivalent of getting told “Thanks, but no thanks” in the dating world. Usually it’s the man who gets the basket, i.e. he is rejected.

What makes this photo odd? A bright pink shopping basket in the middle of the woods? What’s not odd about it?

Henry, on the other hand, is quite partial to getting a basket even if he has to claim the wastepaper one.

In case you were wondering, it’s called “einen Korb kriegen” in German.

Poise

When I read the rdp for today, I saw what I always see in my mind’s eye when I hear the word: the cameo performance by Robin Williams and Billy Crystal in “Friends“: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwMlgKUQaQ4 – at around 1:15. I will never ever read or hear the word “oozing” without hearing it in Robin Williams’ voice. “Maybe it’s my wound, it’s still oooooozing.”

However, oozing wounds do not a pretty picture make. So I’ve opted for showing off Johnny , the neighbour’s cat, instead. He is oozing with confidence!

Black Cat

Jude picked black as the November colour for her Life in Colour Challenge.

What better way to start black November than with Henry, the black cat in our life (who incidentally has draped himself over my arms while I am typing this, slowly numbing them)?

Here are some of the photos I took of Henry over time. He turned three in August. He wasn’t really planned for but he needed a home and he moved in.
