We like to sing!
The seal of approval by the German choir association awarded to nursery schools which excel in music education. It reads: We like to sing!
A verse of a well-known and well-liked children’s song, sung by children waiting for St Nicolas:
- Let us all be cheery and bright
- And look forward to Nicolas’ night.
- Merrily, merrily, ding ding dong!
- It’s Nicolas evening before too before long.
The verse is part of a mural on the side of the Hornbacher Steinhäusel in a village in the Odenwald. The rest of the description reads:
“- and those who don’t know any better and don’t believe it should come with us to the Krähberg, to the proper Steinhäusel, to experience St Nicolas’ evening with the village youths, which is happening every year.”

Inside my home, inside my bed
In Henry’s defense I have to say that he would never go under the cover on his own volition. Our grandson wanted to play hospital with him. And Henry obliged.
Henry prefers his own beds (sic!) on normal days. This box is his favourite, and I am glad he likes letters.

The king is in
The title is a private joke in our family. In Jeddah, where we used to live for a short while, is King Fahd’s fountain – the tallest fountain in the world, spraying salt water around 300 metres into the air. It could be seen from most places in Jeddah but it wasn’t always switched on. The joke was – at least amongst expats – that it was on whenever the king was in his Jeddah residence. Hence, whenever we see a fountain, we proclaim: The king is in!
