The difference in texture between long feathers and fluffy downs is very noticeable on this juvenile (I think it’s a redstart) .

Wood Withers, Metal Rusts

This sculpture by Uli Lamp, called Golem, stands in Hemsbach, a town in the northern part of the state Baden-Württemberg, between the church and the synagogue. The mythical creature is normally made of clay but wood and metal works as well, I think.

Looking Up

My worst “looking up” moment with birds came many years ago when I saw 15 louries in the trees in our garden and I looked up and kept looking up and didn’t see where I was going and I fell in the pool, scraping my thigh which left me with a bruise that took literally years to go away. But it hasn’t cured me from looking up.
