Sepp Herberger
The opposite of abandoned: This ball has been placed on the grave of Sepp Herberger, the coach who led the German national team to win the Football World Championship in Berne in 1954.

All wrapped up

I took a considerable detour to photograph this 500-year-old tower only to be confronted with this:

Bollwerk in Fischbergtal

It wasn’t the first time I had similar luck.

Must haves at the Oktoberfest

I found this First Aid vending machine at the fairground where the world famous Oktoberfest in Munich takes place each year.  It sells paper and desinfectant tissues, sticking plaster, antacid tablets, and condoms.  That should tell you something about what’s going on there each September (sic!).

A walk of possibilities

Here is the yield of one afternoon’s stroll:

18 13 a (640x480)
A goose, or possibly duck, not giving me the time of day.
18 13 b (480x640)
Somebody’s lawn ornament. Perchance an alien, or possibly … something else.
18 13 c (640x480)
This, I think, used to be state of the art.  Is this possible?
18 13 d (480x640)
Somebody started a wood carving.  Still full of possibilities.  I think I see penguin, or possibly a frozen chicken.
18 13 e
Buoy and swan.  Looks like a first approach, possibly the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

At the playground where we sometimes go with our grandson there are a few installations about cool effects.  One is a kind of whirligig where one can turn a handle to create a vortex in the glass cylinder.
