Not the April I’m Used to

April is supposed to be fickle with four seasons in one day, possibly on repeat. It hasn’t been that way recently – it’s been warm (too warm, 25° C) with a cloudless blue sky. I’m not complaining it’s gorgeous but I’m aprehensive about the climate and the future. This was taken in our backyard. The old cherry tree is blooming like crazy.

The Old Tree in the Back of My Garden

That’s the old cherry tree in the back of our garden (the one that Henry used to climb when he was little). It is really old and the cherries still look juicy but they don’t taste good anymore so we leave them for the birds. We don’t have a choice with the higher ones anyway because the branches don’t support a ladder anymore.

But it still makes for a glorious spring feeling each April.

I am apparently not the only one who likes the old tree.

Past winter, pre spring

Is it still winter or is it already spring? These weeks are called Vorfrühling in German, i.e. pre-springtime. The weather this weekend was glorious and the trees, still bare, were on the threshold of renewal.

The plant trees look particularly awkward during this time.

But looking around – proper spring can’t be far away.

The first blooms – wild cherry, I believe – are out.

They still conform to Dale’s prompt, though: they come before the leaves.
