Hyvää Itsenäisyyspäivää!

I hope the Finnish in the title is correct. A small explanation concerning this collage might be due. Our running group has a few Finnish runners and some others have lived in Finland, so each year around 6 December we usually had a special Finnish run. And since it is also the time of Christmas markets we found the same one each year, had some Glühwein or even Swedish glogg and then someone brought out a bottle of Salmiakki and the fun really started. The Salmiakki was traditionally bought at the Finnkiosk in Frankfurt. We ended up singing bawdy songs and we all sang one really rude one (I’m told) to the melody of “Oh, Christmas tree” in Finnish.

This year – well, not so much. And although I can go without Salmiakki for a year, I miss my friends.

Aino’s colour prompt for this Sunday collage is taken from a mushroom called sheep polypore. One sheep, one Egyptian vulture, and fallow deer fit the bill.

Traditional collage

The method may be more traditional, similar to collages done by school children who glue cut-outs from magazines on a large piece of paper, the message unfortunately is very modern. These are all painted pebbles from a pebble snake which was started during the lock down. It is on a walkway where there are always lots of people, particularly on weekends, but during the lock down it was particularly busy – without being crowded. Distancing was always possible. And I felt I had to add a protective umbrella as my own message.
