History deconstructed

The dragon got shafted – literally and figuratively.

All those depiction of St George thrusting his shaft into the dragon and killing him and that dragon is never bigger than a medium sized crocodile. How could such a small creature create such devastation?

The story got misconstrued to make St George into a hero. But marble statues don’t lie!!!

And Fafnir’s Scream Was Heard in all the Land

The Nibelungensteig is a walking track cutting through the Odenwald for 130 km following the legend of the Nibelungen. In 15 places there are sculptures by Jens Nettlich depicting parts of the story. This is near the castle ruin of Lindenfels – almost the beginning of the story. Siegfried, the blonde hero, has forged his sword Balmung and kills the dragon Fafnir with it.

PS: What does it say about me that when I typed the title the first time I wrote: And Faramir’s scream was heard in all the lands?
