I took new photos of something old.  Michelstadt is a quaint little town in the Odenwald, the lower mountain range to the east of the Upper Rhine Valley.  The old houses, particularly the half timbered ones, are so well suited to monochrome photography because of their contrasting structures.  These photos are of the town wall encircling the inner part of the town.  I chose a filter, inexplicably called “bandicoot” in my editing program, which is not as stark as black and white, yet not as mellow as sepia.

A pure – if boring – crossed line.  But seldom have I seen such a perfect right angle in the sky.

It’s not a collage.  I took the picture because I liked the sign with the playing kids but it ended up looking like a deliberate patchwork.

The ultimate in crossed lines, of course, is a half-timbered house.  This one stands in Lorsch, Germany. It is typical for the area with the wooden structure resting on a stone walls forming the ground floor.

Originally, this was meant for Cee’s Black and White challenge – asking for geometrical shapes.  I was a bit late and forgot about the black&white part.  I found the negative images emphasised the geometry in these various timbered houses so without challenge, just for fun.
