Even poets have clerks

at least the rich ones.

This is Bligger von Steinach, as depicted in the Codex Manesse, the beautifully illustrated songbook of German courtly songs in the middle ages. He was a noble who resided in Neckarsteinach in the 13th century but his fame came from his Minnelieder, his songs of courtly love. If the picture holds true he dictated his works to a clerk rather than stain his own fingers. I took the photo at the Starkenburg above Heppenheim which is today a youth hostel and pictures of the Manesse Handschrift decorate the hallways.

This building in Forchheim was originally built in the 19th century and has always served as a restaurant. It was originally called “Blaue Glocke”, or Blue Bell, and the bell should call for patrons and invite them in. The doors, however, seem forbidding and exclude customers. While researching what kind of a building this is I found that the last restaurant enterprises weren’t very successful – makes one think, doesn’t it?

Just a cat’s opionion

They, aka my personal domestics, leave for hours on end without letting me have access to my preferred sleeping place. They leave me to starve. Only yesterday, they were gone and only returned 20 minutes after my accustomed dinnertime. The amount of neglect I have to suffer at their hands is simply scandalous!!
