Diplomacy – or …?

Rugby fans at a match between Scotland and South Africa with kilts and Springbok sweaters or kilts made of South African material and Scottish tam (including fake ginger hair).

But this fan really was the best: He was wearing a ghillie shirt with a South African cravat underneath. His kilt was made of material featuring the Springbok emblem of the South African rugby union. And the cherry on the top was his sporran made of springbok fur.

Nyota Uhuru was a member of the original Star Trek series. The crew was multicultural and she was one of the first black leading women on American television. As the communication officer of the Enterprise she was a junior compared to the triumvirate Kirk, Spock and McCoy, nevertheless she became a role model for many black girls (her skimpy uniform skirts not withstanding).

Let’s Keep the Keep

Veldenz Castle is in the middle of the town of Nohfelden in the Saarland. We would have liked to climb the stairs to the top of the keep for the view but it was closed for renovations and repairs. The English wikipedia still has photos of the tower without a roof but the cone-type roof was added in 1999 so that wasn’t the reason for the closing. A special company checked for loose stones on the outside of the castle keep.
