Wind and Clouds

People just needed to know from which direction the wind was blowing, then they started to look at temperature gages and mercury barometres. Nowadays we have these data interpreted for us and we look on our phone to see how the weather will be. I They used to display the current temperature on office buildings. Today I saw this big slab of weather predictions on the side of a pharmacy.

And to complement the picture, this is what the wheather looked today:

The first two big storms of the autumn season, Hendrik and Ignatz, have passed through. It was quite blustery but didn’t rain much in our area. Today, the winds were still strong and clouds chased across the sky but breaking up and letting sunshine through on occasion.

Friendly Friday

I bet it will rip bad.

Sandy asked for something different for the Friendly Friday Challenge she runs together with Amanda. I thought I share something which I’ve just started: making words and sentences out of street signs. The idea is a derivative from a scavenger hunt organised by a group of friends. I haven’t got many signs yet and I am not 100% happy yet about how to display and highlight the words but in the end – I bet it will rip bad.

The Friendly Friday Challenge: Something Different.

Hunters

Occasionally, I come upon herons on the fields. This one was closer than normal.

When it did this

I hoped that I would have another look at a heron being a successful hunter. I had the luck to see this once, the light was bad, the bird far away, yet it was still a unique experience.

In the meantime, I keep hunting with my camera.

Discovering a country

Having recently read Hamlet again it was not easy to resist using “What dreams may come” or “perchance to dream” as a title. I didn’t quite succeed to avoid the famous soliloquy as you may have noticed.

Dreamland is not quite an undiscovered country, you can go there daily (or nightly) or you can travel to Germany where I found this sign complete with phone number and instructions on what to expect.

Is it allowed to dream of travelling again?

The early cat gets the food

I am not a creature of habit. We don’t eat at a specific time in the evening. I don’t go to bed at the same time each night. I sometimes eat lunch, sometimes I don’t. Even though I don’t have a long commute, I like to mix it up and take different routes. Most days I’ll drink coffee before I leave in the morning but occasionally I have a glass of water instead. It’s not unknown, albeit really seldom, that I eat breakfast. Sometimes I have to rush because I started reading the news on my phone, sometimes I just leave leisurely. But there is one morning ritual that has been forced on me. At around 6am, earlier in summer, later in winter, I am woken by a cold nose nudging me gently at first, more forcefully the longer I don’t react. Somebody wants food. I get up, barely conscious, rip open a food pouch, place the filled bowl down, and find my way back to bed. Sometimes the cat will settle down next to me and purr me back to sleep. My catnap, if you will, before the alarm sounds and I have to get up in earnest.
