with a fun story.

When you come to our running group you have to be more or less on time. If you are late, the group has left. If that happens you have two possibilities: You run on your own, following the chalk marks, and hope to catch up. If you’re slow or lazy, you can phone the hare (the person who has laid the trail) and get a location where you can find the pack an run (or walk) straight to that location avoiding the meanderings of the trail and possible falsies.
Now there was this young, fit and energetic US American who was notoriously late. He’d phone the hare and 10 minutes later he would arrive in a taxi to join the pack for the rest of the trail. Needless to say, he was known as “Comes in Taxis”.

This was our goodie bag from last weekend except that I have the t-shirt in a burnt orange and a turquoise blue as well. The weekend which these items represent was so much more than the parts – sunshine and rainbows and a little bit of rain (and the weather forecast had promised almost three solid days of rain), and very hilly trails amidst the vineyards with gorgeous views of the Rhine and the Loreley, and wine and beer and cocktails and food and snacks and music and party to our hearts’ content – and most important: nice people quite a few of them friends, old and new ones. The youngest hasher was 8 months old and thus just 90 years short of our oldest hasher. And fun was had by all.
And as I promised to Bushboy: that will me be quiet about hashing for quite some time. After all the stress of organising 270 people, I can think again about other things now.

Yes, I am. Looking at all the hashing paraphernalia I’ve got with my name on, there is no other conclusion:

But our big weekend is looming. And the weather looks very wet and windy. So, although I will see myself like this:
I will probably look more like this (hazzled about sorting things for 300 runners and revellers):
Nevertheless, I am still hoping for this (and by Monday I will probably feel like this):

The words “in the circle” has a special meaning to anyone who has ever hashed (for more information check out Hash House Harriers on the net). After a run hashers congregate in a circle (or a more or less circle shaped form) and have fun, rehashing (sic!) what happened while out in the wilds. Lots of singing and drinking (a beverage of your choice which is often but not necessarily beer) and frivolity is involved.

S.H.I.T.S. stands for Saturday Hash in the Summer (i.e. we hash = run and socialise on Saturdays in summer). This is the tasteful front of one of our t-shirts:

For further viewing, I better add this warning:

These t-shirts have stopped a few passers-by who wanted a closer look:

This one is a bit older, can’t you tell?

And here is hashing explained to more academically minded people:

If you are at all intrigued – look around, there might be some hashers in your area. There are almost two thousand hashes in all parts of the world; they say there are even two organized hashes in Antarctica.
This is linked to Travel with Intent and Debbie’s weekly quotation prompt.

No, don’t worry: S.H.I.T.S. is an acronym and stands for “Saturday Hash in the Summer“.
No, you really don’t have to worry: Hash has nothing to do with smoking. Or cookies, for that matter.
It’s short for a worldwide social running club, the Hash House Harriers. A foot (or feet) is its logo. Runners follow a trail marked in chalk or flour and when they find the right way to run they shout “on on“.
Cee was asking for feet for her Black&White Photo Challenge. Feet she got. More feet can be found here.
