I’m a Fan of This Dog

I’m a cat person. I’ve tried dogs and it didn’t work. But if there is one dog that could change my mind, it is Kobi.

He is the most charming, the calmest, most relaxed, and also obedient dog. He will sit next to you when you’re eating, not openly begging just letting you know that if you felt like sharing some of your food, he’d be there. When you put down your plate and get up, he will not touch your plate, not sniff your food, just wait patiently for you to return. And let you know that he is still willing to share some of your food.

Unfortunately, Kobi is taken.

I don’t stand a chance.

I’m a Fan of the Beerfelden Gallows (Not)

It’s the only medieval three beam gallows that has been preserved in Germany. In winter this site is very barren and sad. In summer the panoramic view is stunning, and if the accounts are true, that was the very reason this location was chosen: to show the delinquent one last time the beauty of the world he or she was going to leave.

I abhor the death penalty and can’t imagine if it was worse for the condemned to meet his or her face in winter or summer.

I’m a Fan of the Kanzelbach

The village of Schriesheim, less than 10 kms to the south of us, has a stream running through the village called Kanzelbach. This is not unusual since Schriesheim is built on the slopes of the Odenwald like many other towns and villages along the Bergstraße. Streams descend from the hills, cross the plain and join the River Rhein.

But in Schriesheim they did something special to their little waterway as you can see.

The ferry across the Rhine river at Gernsheim.

The ferry across the Rhine river at Nierstein-Landskron.

The ferry across the Main river near Rumpenheim.

The ferry across the Neckar river at Ladenburg.

The ferry across the stream Steinach in Abtsteinach in the Odenwald.
