Even if they’re trying to hide in the grass.
Or are just rolling around.
For a long time the only pheasants I came across were painted ones like these on the gable of a local hotel.
Then I saw this fine fellow:
I was pretty pleased that I spotted him from my bike while I was pedalling through the fields.
And a few days later I encountered another male pheasant.
Only once I started looking I realised that he wasn’t alone.
Rather dowdy in comparison, isn’t she?
And then he spotted me and waved me off.
Tulips come in many colours but for this week I concentrated on mainly red and yellow blooms.

Still beautiful just before the end.
After last weekend’s snow we had a bit of reprieve during the week and then Friday night came and brought us this:
Quite a few jokers posted their photos on social media and captioned them “Merry Christmas!” It certainly was a lot more snow than what we saw in December or in fact, throughout the whole of winter.
But the magnolia blossoms wouldn’t hide.
Nor would the tulips.
Morning brought sunshine and a world covered under a white blanket.
Nobody could come and go in secrecy.
The snow was thawing fast, though, and the colours came back.
We decided to go for a drive up the hills where snow always lasts a little bit longer.
We found our favourite slope.
We had brought our sleds and the grandkids
and made the best of this April surprise.
There’s something strange in my neighborhood!
I think I’m seeing things. That bird on the roof is huge! But it’s not a hawk, not a rook … it’s red and blue and possibly green! Luckily, I have a zoom lens.
I posted the pics on a local facebook site and it turns out that this parrot is known in the neighbourhood. He regularly flies his rounds and squawks at people from the roofs and then returns home.
Wynona being my bicycle, of course. We have been together for 4444km and less than 2 years. This milestone was reached last week ironically at the same point were I fell and ended up with a light concussion. Which is, on second thought, not all that remarkable since I pass this spot at least 8 times each week on my way to school.
