This is a Roman statue, partially preserved, from the Carrawburgh Temple of Mitras site (that’s part of Hadrian’s Wall). The head might be gone but his chiton can still be seen. Chitons were garments clasped on one shoulder, worn by ancient Greeks and Romans.

This month’s colour for Jude’s Life in Colour challenge is orange.
At the weekend we met with a running group which has chosen orange and black as their group colours. They sport shoes, socks, t-shirts, shawls and gloves in orange and black. So I thought, I start with orange clothes.
For some others, orange is their working colour.

Layers can be fun.
Movement is definitely overrated.
So apparently is sight.
Ignore fashion. Layer for warmth.
Seasonal layers.
Proof that some people don’t need the weather as excuse for layering.

I don’t know what was better – the individual attention to each garment (for those that could afford it) or our mass produced wares (but available for the masses). In any case, a lot of our fashion of yesterday ends up here:
It is probably the better option compared to simply throwing used clothes and shoes in the garbage although there are issues with this kind of recycling, too. If I can I rather pass on my no longer used fashion items to an organisation where I know they will be worn in Germany and don’t end up destroying indigenous industries in third world countries. Or I wear them until they fall apart and end up as cleaning rags.
