According to the Definition

in Merriam-Webster procuring CAN mean “to obtain (someone) to be employed for sex (as for an individual or in a house of prostitution)”. I knew the word in the sense of “otaining” something (possibly of something illicit). I was quite happy to come across this additional, more specific meaning.

Occasionally I cross-check words not only to make sure that I understand correctly but also to find some inspiration which photo I could pick for the prompt.

In the photo you can see a member of the clergy procuring a new recruit.

In his defense: He was looking for participants in a “Tarts and Vicars” party 😄.

Odd a Lot

It’s Shrove Monday or Rose Monday in areas where they celebrate carnival. It’s another odd carnival year, thanks to – dare I mention it – COVID – with few if any public happenings.

But I couldn’t let the occasion pass without at least one costume. We all had a blast a few years back with this odd costume. The dinosaur was hilarious – it kept losing air and the girl inside kept tumbling over because her sight was limited. It was a lot of fun if a bit odd, or rather, a lot.

To top it all, the photo itself is an exception to my month of oddities. It is the only photo that I had prepared in advance and not waited for other contributions to inspire me.

Thanks to Becky once again for having the idea and hosting. It’s been fun as well as odd.

NO UNMASKING BEFORE MIDNIGHT

I’ve often been outspoken about the fact that I am a fan of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels. One of my favourite characters is – like for many other readers – DEATH. This anthropomorphic personification of death sometimes dabbles in human endeavours like when he takes out his apprentice to a restaurant for a curry or when he eats little pieces of cheese impaled on little wooden skewers next to some grapes. He tries so hard but never quite gets it completely right. I can just see him at a costume party trying to be inconspicuous as a bunny.
