Come on and let’s play II

28 toy a

The proverbial boys’ toy that fathers buy for their sons and end up playing themselves.  I wonder if that still is the case?

28 toy b

A tree, a hammock, a child – a threesome spelling idealised childhood.

But in any case, playing  is not only allowed but requested as per this sign:

Spielen erwünscht
Laughing and romping around is allowed for adults and children alike.  Decreed by the play management.

This is for Cee’s Black & White photo challenge with the theme toys for children or adults.

In summer, the king is in

The Andernach Geysir in the Eifel region of Germany is the highest cold-water geysir in the world. It is situated on a peninsula of the Moselle and only easily reachable by boat.  During the summer season every couple of hours a boat with several hundred tourists takes the trip (going slowly so that there is enough time to have some coffee and cake, or a beer if one desires).  The viewers walk a few hundered metres, arriving in time for the scheduled eruption, oooh and aaah appreciatevely and then return to the town.  The water spray is indeed impressive, up to 60 metres high.

In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, there is a high water fountain that only is switched on if the king is in residence in the palace.  Hence, our private saying whenever we see a fountain: The king is in.

Walls and beams

I adore half-timbered houses and they are so well suited to monochrome photos because of the stark contrast they display.

24 house b

This house stands in the old part of town of Weinheim.

24 house a

This one in the even older part of the town (although many don’t know this).  Both are a few hundred years old.

24 house d

A farmhouse from the Odenwald showing the typical stone foundation with the half-timbered first floor and a later finished attic floor with shingles.

All these examples are from the southwest of Germany.  But I was in the north a few weeks ago and the styles in houses is completely different.

24 house f

The contrast in the brickwork again is ideally suited to monochrome photography.

24 house g

Contrast it is also with this heavily ornamented house.

24 house e

The sepia-toned photography makes this house – it is part of the monastry of Lorsch, a UNESCO world heritage site – timeless.  It could have been taken 100 years ago, or last summer (which it was).

This is for Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge with the subject of — houses.

Yellowbellied slider Gelbbauch Schmuckschildkröte

Yellowbellied slider Gelbbauch Schmuckschildkröte

The first two photos are of a giant tortoise, the next ones of two yellow-bellied sliders (a land and water turtle). I only noticed the spider on the underside of the jaw when I had the enlarged photo on my pc screen.

This is for Black & White Sunday: texture. You will find more photos for this challenge here.
