I witnessed this air rescue helicopter in action in Munich earlier this year. There had been accident involving a cyclist and a car. I did not take photos of the emergency doctor and paramedics treating the badly injured cyclist, actually we left the scene as soon as the helicopter had landed. But … there were real people working inside.

Put trash in its place!

The island of Krk. In front of Croatia in the Adriatic Sea. In front of garbage containers. But even that is picturesque. And what time to have a photo of Croatia who later today will play France for the football (soccer) world championship in their first world cup final ever [edit: they didn’t win, but they were in the final!]

An equally incongruous place for a garbage container, in the old southern cemetery in Munich.

Not an odd location but an odd inscription: the town’s finest.

Just to round off this rubbish collection, here is Oscar the Grouch who lives in a garbage can on Sesame Street.

Saint Florian is the patron saint of fire fighters. One often hears the above saying following his name, literally translated it means:
Spare my house, burn down another one.

This statue of the saint, appropriately placed in a fountain, stands across the old fire station in Munich.

This old marker used to stand in front of the fire station no. 2 in Frankfurt:

whereas this modern fire fighting truck is part of the fleet of the Weinheim fire brigade.

5 words, in and out of the box

There was this pond covered with water lilies, one about to be born like Venus of the watery foam, a nascent life form. Nearby lilac flowers looked like an abundance of writhing snakes pullulating in the bushes. This made me hungry so I went to the famous Viktualienmarkt in Munich with its hundreds of stalls selling victuals of every kind. A car passed by – and I wondered if a nut feels maternal towards bolts, after all in German they are called “Mutter” which means “mother”. And I was back at the pond where a frog pondered reflectively about his eye glancing up at him from the water and he completed the circle quoting “Consider the lilies!” from The Life of Brian.

Bicycle, bicycle, I want to ride my bicycle

… I want to ride my bike. I want to ride my bicycle. I want to ride it where I like.
Need I say that the lyrics are from Queen?

I took a considerable detour to photograph this 500-year-old tower only to be confronted with this:

It wasn’t the first time I had similar luck.
