Without Asparagus Everything Is Just Bananas!

Around May there is kind of madness that descends on Germans. They go bananas over white asparagus. They eat it with meat, with ham, with pancakes, on its own, usually with a sauce hollandaise or a bechamel sauce. They even paint their houses with it. Proper fanatics.

BTW: The writing properly translated means: Without asparagus, life is unimportant.

All Power to the Children

This colourful mural, or rather a few parts of a mural in an underpass in Frankfurt, was created by children. The writing suggests that at least some of them are not native German speakers, yet their take on children’s rights is powerful:

  • I think all rights of children are important.
  • Children should not be forced to work.
  • I want all children to be able to move, have enough to drink and find new friends.
  • Children should go to school.
  • For me, it is most important to have fun.
  • Children should be protected from war.
  • Children should be loved and not ostracised.
  • Every child has the right to voice their own opinion.
  • Children have the right to a school, a home and enough to eat.
  • I think it’s stupid when children are beaten.
  • I think it’s important that all children have enough to drink.
  • Every child has the right to go to school.
  • For me the most important is that all children have a home.
  • Children’s rights are similar to laws.
  • Children may not be hurt.
  • I think that no matter whether you have dark skin or light skin children can go to school.
  • Children may not be beaten.
  • Children should not fight in a war but go to school.
  • I don’t like it when children fight about something.
  • All children should have a home.

Three More Yellow Trios

I’m aware that these trios are imperfect trios or near trios.

Three minions following a fat penguin.

There are four Dalton brothers yet there were only three on this mural. I guess Averell is missing, but Joe, William, and Jack are there. Lucky Luke was further to the left.

Three pints on a beer sock – although technically there are more on the sides and back.

Archived Trios

I’ve been sick for almost two weeks. Too sick to go to school but well enough to crawl out of bed and plonk myself in front of the computer. I’ve used the time to sort archived photos. And came upon a few older trios.

Believe it or not – this was in March 2003. Snow like this is not a common occurrence in the Odenwald, let alone in springtime.

An old graffiti / mural. Even though old and dirty it still conveys a joyful mood.

And three birds on a wall – I’m sure there are many variations of this motive.
