I saw this silver sculpture in front of a building which is part of the Technical Museum in Speyer. Size and form, yet not the stance nor the material, reminded me of a sculpture I’d seen in Munich.

Originally a tradition in Frankonia (the northern part of Bavaria) the tradition to decorate fountains with coloured eggs has spread to other parts in southern and south-western Germany.











Some of these lions are just old and have been crafted in times when the weren’t that many real lions around. Others look anthropomorphic and that makes them look weird.

I’m sure I didn’t get even half the lions in Heidelberg Castle. They were really fond of lions there.













These lions are on the back facade of the Friedrichsbau. They are all in a row between the windows, and not one is like the other.
