Holy Five

TS 15 all five

Excuse the pun in the title – this is for Thursday Special: Pick a Word and I tried to get a photo which satisfies all 5 in one go AND it is a photo from Holy Island (Lindisfarne) off the coast of Northumberland.

Setting – well the hue of the photo suggests it was close to sunset.

Nubilous – slightly fuzzy, not very clear, it definitely is, due to zooming in so close, and the lateness of the day.

Motley – very much a motley collection of boats on an untidy looking beach at low tide.

Growth – maybe a slight stretch but the ruins of the old priory look to me as if they were growing out of the soil.

Nautical – no comment needed.

Earth, wind and fire … and water

The photo was taken on the causeway between Northumberland on the mainland and Holy Island – a stretch of road that is completely under water during high tide.

The first picture is pretty much as I took it and how I remember it.  But then I started to play around with the editing functions of my photo program and I realised that depending on the effect, a different element was emphasised.

For me – with my landlocked upbringing – the seaside is a wonderous place where I find the immediacy of the elements is ever present.

The mouse ran up ad hoc

04 mouse c (640x480)

I have an ulterior motive with my 6 word musings this Saturday.  I was walking in the woods yesterday when this little creature ran in front of me on the path.  It was tiny, totally unperturbed, meeping in a high voice, and following ants on which it pounced and ate one after the other.  I think it was either a wood mouse or a bank vole – but the size still puzzles me. Its body was just an inch long, the tail about another inch. Any of the animals I checked up on are normally bigger.  Or was this a baby who was still learning to keep under cover and keep quite? I hope it learned fast.  Anyway, if somebody knows for sure what I saw I’d appreciate to hear from you.

The area was a fairly well frequented part of a large arboretum with exotic trees from all over the world, beech varieties are also included, pretty close to a town, in southwest Germany (Weinheim an der Bergstraße).    https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exotenwald

True trail

When I hear trail I cannot help but think of paths marked with flour (or chalk, and occasionally completely different stuff) followed by mad people whom I happen to call friends, running, walking, skipping, crawling … following the “hash” and calling “on on”. An arrow with lines is called “true trail” and if you find this you know you are on the right track, and beer (or water) won’t be too far away.
