Feathers of a bird

37 structure b (640x480)

I find the layering of plumage – in this case of a goose – fascinating. I edited the light in the following shot to emphasize the structure of the different layers and sizes.

Traces of the past in more ways than one.  The fountain in front of the main building of the Ludwigs-Maximilians-Universität in München (Munich, Germany) was built in the middle of the 19th century. It has a pendant across the street.

The place is called Geschwister-Scholl-Platz in remembrance of the students Sophie and Hans Scholl who died because of their protest against the nazi regime.

And lastly, I stood in this fountain with about 20 others many years ago when I was a student there and the picture was taken for an election poster for the students’ council.

Redbrick gothic

anno 1593

Redbrick gothic found in Lüneburg, northern Germany.  Over 400 years ago, this house was build and the stone commemorating the event has weathered the times.

This is for The Daily Post.  More weathered photos can be found here.

A walk amongst the exotic

The Exotenwald in Weinheim (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exotenwald_Weinheim) is the local forest, just a few steps from the centre of town.  It was established in the middle of the 19th century and it has many exotic trees – not planted as single individuals but in large groups over hectares of woodland.  Since it is so close to town with unrestricted access it used to be my playground when I was little.  I still like to go for walks there – the following photos were all taken on a single afternoon this summer.

This last photo is of the mausoleum in the corner of the park, just where the woodlands start.  It’s the grave of the family von Berckheim, Freiherr Christian F.B. von Berckheim started the arboretum.

This is for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: needs to have the letters O and U in the word.

Oddball is back

Cee’s Oddball photo challenge is back! Yeah!

I take this opportunity to wish everybody a belated happy New Year.  These are totally unambitious impressions from the private fireworks for the New Year’s celebration. No tripod, no special camera settings, just what I could click and surprise myself with one gloved hand (holding a glass of bubbly in the other, wishing it was hot tea instead).

More oddballs can be found here.
