But Who Invented This?

I found out that this watchamacallit is actually a locking device. I wonder if it was named after Sir Joshua Device? On the other hand, it’s a handy gadget so maybe it was invented by Sir Humphrey Gadget? Other contenders could be Pietr Gizmo from Russia, or Ella Reader Widget – an American as was Cyrus T. Doodat. Germans have been known to invent strange little contraptions of which nobody remembers their names and are just called thingies or Dingsbums, so Hans-Joachim Dingsbums might be an option as the originator.

Ragtag Daily Prompt: Whatchamacallit

PS: Except for HaJo Dingsbums all names come from Good Omens by Pratchett and Gaiman.

NO UNMASKING BEFORE MIDNIGHT

I’ve often been outspoken about the fact that I am a fan of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels. One of my favourite characters is – like for many other readers – DEATH. This anthropomorphic personification of death sometimes dabbles in human endeavours like when he takes out his apprentice to a restaurant for a curry or when he eats little pieces of cheese impaled on little wooden skewers next to some grapes. He tries so hard but never quite gets it completely right. I can just see him at a costume party trying to be inconspicuous as a bunny.
