Fruitless?
Situated in Oberotterbach, close to the French-German border, there is the Waldgeisterweg, a shortish woodland path lined with bizarre or whimsical goblins and gnomes and imps which the artist Volker Dahl has carved from old broken trees and roots.
At one point there is this sign on a tree with a prompt in the local vernacular: “Oy, why don’t you look up!”
And a few metres higher up there is this sign:
What Goes Up
must come down.
Unfortunately, on our Sunday runs it is often the other way round.
“Curses!!! We are not going on a cruise!”
A cruse is an old word for an earthenware pot or jar. In the Book of Kings in the Old Testament is the story of a widow who’s cruse of oil never runs try.
I found this mural on the side of a house in Koblenz. This is what it looked with the house attached, so to speak:
Accepting the Inevitable?
Living close to a river, particularly a river in a narrow valley, probably means you have to accept that every now and again the waters rise. This water line is from 1824 when the Neckar overflowed its banks.
To put this in perspective: The square where the house with this mark stands is 100m away from river, and adding a bit more perspective:

The container port of Gernsheim on the Rhine, and the harbour for smaller private boats.
Six of a Kind
This wall on a vacant lot in the woods near Teplice – I was wondering if the artist honed his inimitable style on it. Sadly, I didn’t see any other of his works nor could I find any information about him.
