Freedom Ain’t a Boat that’s Leavin’ Without You ðŸŽ¹

Could’a fooled me!

Freedom IS across a county line if you are not in Munich because there is the Münchner Freiheit (Munich’s Freedom, a square in the borrow of Schwabing).

And in Brandenburg it IS a place you float to find – just follow the Havel river. (Ironic that there is no stopping once you reach Freedom Close).


When you’ve arrived you hope that there is no fulltime occuption but a free room:

Not quite Varicose Veins

Many dairy farms decorate their entrance with a plastic, life-size cow.  I have even seen cows painted as strawberries, colourful and psychedelic cows.  










They are pretty life-like, particularly the veins show around the udder.  










Whoever painted these two specimen has gone a little overboard painting the veins in blue, black and dark russet. It bothers me everytime I pass by.

PS: While checking whether I had the right word for the blood vessels in and around the udder, I came across the startling information that there are beauty pageants for cows.  There actually are cow beauty queens called Miss Zürich, for example. I’ve never heard the term conglomerate being used for a flower meadow but it is one with this definition: a thing consisting of a number of different and distinct parts or items that are grouped together.

Villa Rustica in Großsachsen





In the early 1980s the site of a Roman villa was discovered near our town.  The foundations were excavated and then enlarged so that visitors would have more of an understanding of the layout of this villa rustica.  The  foundations were only augmented and some of the walls were built up to less than half their original height. The photo shows an outside wall with half a window in it, just to give the impression of what it kind of looked like in around 300 AD.

I’ve featured this window before.  I took the photo when visiting a friend and I heartily envy her this nook.  The view is directly onto the lighthouse of Roker Beach in Sunderland.  I ordinarily don’t eat breakfast and as I’ve often said: “I don’t do sunrises” but with this window seat I would change my routine just for the pleasure of sitting there and gazing out over the waves.
