A moo? No, emu.

When I read this quote: “His high forehead, aquiline nose, and longish chin were softened by nut-brown eyes and a gentle smile, one that suggested he was always prepared to think the best of people.” (Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death by James Runcie) I dug through my pictures and looked for brown eyes. I looked at brown eyes from cows and horses and even bunnies – but little did I expect to find the best nut-brown in the eye of an emu.

The Ragtag Daily Prompt: Nut-brown.

What is going on?

Sometimes you get a prompt where you have to wrack your brain to come up with a single photo.

And then you get a prompt where you’re spoilt for choice.

Once upon a time (i.e. pre-COVID) I was on a trail at least once a week usually on a Sunday (big sigh) with friends. One runner started earlier and left a trail (confusing by design) for the others to follow. Hares and hounds, you understand. The trail was laid in chalk and to make sure that everybody understood what was going on there was a chalk talk before leaving. Really unnecessary as the marks were pretty self-explanatory, don’t you think?

A mob of cattle

The prompt for today is “mob” and I am desperate for an escapist photo. The internet informs me that a group of cattle can be called a mob.

Imagine those six youngsters advancing on you with no fence between them and you!

I met these six thugs a couple of years ago while on a hike and at this point I didn’t know what their intentions were. But they kept coming closer and closer until I turned tail and hid behind a tree, even considered climbing up.

Choosing this picture was inspired by a famous photo of a different mob – scroll down, it’s the second photo illustrating the article, alternatively use picture search in a search engine and look for Chandoha The Mob:

Maybe an Australian blogger can add a photo of a proper mob – I believe that the collective noun for kangaroos is also a mob.
