Where to Hide them?

I recently read an article about crows hiding nuts in autumn. If they think they have been observed by fellow crows, they do so anyway — and come back later on their own and put their stash to a different hiding place. They don’t trust each other and are clever enough to do something about it!

And since it is October and Halloween is almost upon us, here is my bonus photo about nuts. I also have a problem to hide these – from my husband and myself, that is.

A Minor Celebrity

Last weekend we were at the Opel-Zoo near Frankfurt and I snapped a photo of this beaded lizard. When I was making up this post I checked out its English name, and as I often do with the help of wikipedia rather than with a dictionary. And I was amazed that a photo of this particular lizard is on the German wikipedia site (not on the English one) to show a Skorpion-Krustenechse. The scorpion in the German name is due to the fact that it is poisonous.

What’s Your Pleasure?

On rye or white? In Germany, even the street vendors offer more choices: Chiabatta, wild garlic ciabatta, onion bread, olive bread, Turkish pide, dark spelt flour bread, flûte, baguette, sweet yeast bread made with spelt flour with or without raisins, – that’s in addition to the standard wholewheat or white bread, rye bread made with sourdough. So, how would you like your sandwich?

When It Should Be but Isn’t Really

Ephemera, that is.

We purchased these tickets almost two years ago. My husband and I really enjoy the skits of Foil Arms and Hogg so very soon after having seen them in Frankfurt in late 2024 I purchased the tickets for February 2025 for their new show. I commented that I hoped that we still remembered the date almost 12 months later as we were not getting any younger. January this year came and anticipation grew. Less than a week before the show was cancelled and we received the option of either getting our money back or getting tickets to their next show in Frankfurt. We opted for the next show. It’s planned for late February 2026.

I had hoped to throw the tickets away after a funny and rewarding night out. I’m still holding on to them. Maybe they will be part of the inheritance to our sons in years to come.
