Supposedly Horrible
In times gone by we bought the Sunday papers because of the thick property section. Not quite as thick but much more entertaining to me was the cartoon supplement. I had my favourites, and one of them was Hägar, the Horrible. I kept a few strips (cut out and pasted in a scrapbook) and they are mostly about Hägar’s softer side. Little did I know then that 40 years down the line my husband and I might resemble the two Vikings more than I suspected.

It Ain’t Cuba
but it is the Bay of Pigs. There is a public swimming area at the local lake. With life guards, a designated non-swimmers area, changing rooms, toilets, a kiosk and of course, entrance fees. But there has always been this unsupervised area and it has been known as the Schweinebucht (Bay of Pigs).
