The Empty Nest Syndrome

The Rote Turm in Weinheim has been suffering from Empty Nest Syndrome for many years now. I think there were still storks living there during the summer when I was a little girl. Then the nest was abandoned.

Today there is again a thriving stork population. They have moved away from the town and into the plain, closer to food and company.

Empty Nest Syndrome

It can no longer be hidden at this time of year.

Whether it is kind of hidden in the twigs and branches of the barren trees

or openly displayed on top of poles and trunks.

And this particular nest has been empty for years and years and years. When I was little it was used by storks, then there were fewer and the nest stayed empty. Now their numbers are increasing and we have a sizable number returning every spring but they never took again to the nest up on the old tower, nowadays they live in the trees in the plain, closer to their food sources.

One Word Sunday: Empty.

The Red Tower

I was out on my bike tonight at around sunset and caught the Red Tower with the wide Rhine valley behind it just at the right moment. It is one of three still remaining towers which were part of the town wall of Weinheim.
