Does Chlodwig’s Ghost Still Dwell Here?

Not many ghost towns in densely populated central Europe but lots of old ruined castles for ghosts to haunt. This particular one is Burg Königstein to the west of Frankfurt am Main.

I’m not sure if I prefer the monochrome treatment (this particular shade is called bandicoot in photoscape, probably better described as a kind of olive grey, which I like for old buildings and ruins) to the colour version. I like the contrast of the ancient stones to the green of the plants and the blue of the skies.

Clinker

Hildebrandsche Mühle

This building is what is left over of a mill built in the late 19th century.  It was built in contrasting brickface and looked and still looks striking – now with trees growing from the walls.

The bricks of the chimneys, although rectangular in shape, were laid round.

The window panes are long gone after several generations of youngsters have used them for target practice but the contrasting brickworks still peek through the trees.

The chimneys are square though in the newer buildings

as are the cellar windows.

Holy Five

TS 15 all five

Excuse the pun in the title – this is for Thursday Special: Pick a Word and I tried to get a photo which satisfies all 5 in one go AND it is a photo from Holy Island (Lindisfarne) off the coast of Northumberland.

Setting – well the hue of the photo suggests it was close to sunset.

Nubilous – slightly fuzzy, not very clear, it definitely is, due to zooming in so close, and the lateness of the day.

Motley – very much a motley collection of boats on an untidy looking beach at low tide.

Growth – maybe a slight stretch but the ruins of the old priory look to me as if they were growing out of the soil.

Nautical – no comment needed.
