The enemy may be listening but we don’t care!

2002 last a

That’s the last picture on my SD card in February.  It’s an sign from WWII and the equivalent of English posters of the time: “Careless talk costs lives” or “Loose lips sink ships”.  We’d been on a run for Leap Year with some friends (the last one we did four years ago, wouldn’t you know?) and were caught in a thunderstorm.  We took refuge in a local pub where we had food and drink to recuperate.  This replica sign caught my attention when we left the pub.

To prove that I am not making this up, I’ll gladly share the second to last photo for February:

Granny Smith Apple – Falafel

Falafel seit 1818

It’s not really the falafel that’s granny smith green.  But this sign has me wondering: What’s the significance of the number?  Vegetarian falafel since 1818!?!

Come blow your horn

No, I’m not Frank Sinatra but feel free to take your pick. The choice of horns is yours:

Post

The sign of the hotel “Adler-Post” in Schwetzingen.

Post

Less ornate but rich in contrast, the restaurant “Post” in Neustadt an der Weinstraße.

Nachtwächter

A mural in Bensheim – night watchmen carried a lamp, a hellbarde, and a horn.

83 f horn

Passing on the knowledge to the next generation.

83 b horn

A magnificent set of horns on this he-goat.

83 c horn

And a more whimsical set of horns on this cow,

A horned theme for Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge.  More horny photos can be found here.

How to use the forest

verboten
verboten

It is forbidden to: start and maintain an open fire, not even for barbecuing; to smoke (from beginning of March to end of October); to camp; to leave garbage behind; to use motorised vehicles on the paths without permit.  Transgressions will be prosecuted and carry fines of up to 10,000 German Marks.

One Word Picture Challenge asked for manual.  Some forests, apparently, come with a manual.  Other interpretations of the word can be found here.

Come on and let’s play II

28 toy a

The proverbial boys’ toy that fathers buy for their sons and end up playing themselves.  I wonder if that still is the case?

28 toy b

A tree, a hammock, a child – a threesome spelling idealised childhood.

But in any case, playing  is not only allowed but requested as per this sign:

Spielen erwünscht
Laughing and romping around is allowed for adults and children alike.  Decreed by the play management.

This is for Cee’s Black & White photo challenge with the theme toys for children or adults.
