Debilitating Weather

These pictures are from a few years back.

Needless to say that when I stepped out of the house that day I was sure that I wouldn’t go to work that day, I didn’t want to go to work that day.

But the neighbours were out and starting to clear the snow. And I had help.

Within less than an hour, most of us had freed their cars and were on their way. I was off to work, albeit a bit late. As debilitating the snow was, it didn’t disable us completely.

Suprising Encounter

We had a few flakes of snow on Friday and Saturday morning, a few white roofs (proof of good house insulation) and that was it. But a mere 6km to the east of us as the crow flies (if that crow adds a few altitude meters) there was proper snow. And what is whiter than freshly fallen snow?

Then I came across this road sign, in the middle of the forest.

Which didn’t really prepare me for the home of the Vedic Cultural Club.

At least, I Have Central Heating

The Ragtag prompt today, was a Scottish word, oorie. I had to look it up (and I feel reassured by the fact that some native English speakers had to, as well) and the Collins Dictionary defines it as “gloomy, dismal, or chilled with cold” – the addendum “Scottish” is almost unnecessary, don’t you think.

I immediately thought of this photo, which I took a few years ago.

The Danger of Tripping

The very first picture I took in 2022:

It looks dangerous! The drop – which I didn’t photograph because I didn’t want to lose my place in line to have my vax status checked – was less than 50 cm. Or possibly, it was meant for the children playing two metres to the right of the sign:

Contemplating the danger of falling flat on my face with every new endeavour (and the very large possibility of the actual fall being much larger in my mind than in reality) I decided to go back and rather post something symbolic for a fresh start.

Newly fallen snow. The beckoning of a new dawn.

And now I’m really tripping:

Make it a good one!

Catch It while You Can

There are a number of reasons why nostalgia combines with snow in my mind. It always looks so clean and pristine when it is first fallen and gives even old buildings a new and shiny coat.

I always want to capture it very quickly because it lasts so seldom in our area. I often think if I don’t take a picture of it today it will be gone tomorrow.
