Singing for the Taxman

This was a well-known song in Germany in the 1970s. Joy Fleming was said to have a “black voice” and she sang in the Mannheim dialect. Here is a link, for anyone who might be interested: Ich sing fer’s Finanzment.

This is the entry to the inland revenue office in Schwetzingen.

At least, this institution is honest. Look at the emblem over the door:

The German Post is Yellow

Jude has posted about British postboxes in what we would call “fire station red”. German postboxes are typically yellow but evidently that was not always the case. I found these blue ones in Michelstadt and in Schwetzingen respectively, both date back to the late 19th century. The one in Michelstadt is still in use but I don’t know about the one from Schwetzingen. Both date back to the late 19th century.

Check out Jude’s post Rare Post Boxes for red postboxes and interesting facts about them.

Wisdom

The fool thinks a warning is hostility.

The Red Mosque in the palace gardens of Schwetzingen is decorated with translated wisdom from the Arabic, or at least what was considered to be oriental in the 18th century. But regardless of the origin, the saying holds true: Often a well-meant advice is perceived as harsh criticism, as being adverse.
