And yes! on day 2 I am already messing with the word light (yet only following Becky’s instructions). But I think it’s justified for the challenge, since the happy chappy is backlit so beautifully!

Yippeh! It’s the New Year! And Squares are back in style! Hurrah!
Although I did not indulge in a private fireworks display (haven’t done so in years – there are many reasons for not doing it but my turning point came when we spent a New Year’s Eve in a holiday resort in Germany and we saw the disgusting amount of rubbish on the streets the next morning) how else could one start day 1 of a month long theme of light? Rocketlights (I warned you, I’m German, I know how to do compound nouns!) rushing towards the New Year! And in case you haven’t noticed: It’s a tie-in with the last square challenge of squares & lines.

All the lines from my square October in never-ending circles.
Check out Becky’s blog (who Jude has taken to calling “Queen of the Squares” which I like and will steal from her) for more lined squares.

My final square photo for this month of lines&squares with children lining up. Or is it bloggers already lining up for the next month of squares soon?

The gasworks in Neustadt an der Dosse in Brandenburg – this is one of only two plants of this kind still standing in Europe (there is one other in Greece). The plant was built in 1904 and damaged little during WWII so that it was put into operation again in 1947. The gas produced from coal was used for street lights and heating. Operations were stopped 1980. It was declared a technical monument and converted into a museum. What made our tour of the complex so interesting was that the two men who showed us around used to work there 40 years earlier when it was still in operation.
