While this gull is flying into the infinite distance
the Vedra is making shoreward, towards Roker Beach.
Thirty years earlier we were on the opposite side of the world, at the lagoon of Nature’s Valley near Plettenberg Baai in South Africa.
I wear my hair short and I can style it without much fuss. But folk with proper manes might rely on the help of others to look their best.
I also don’t care for cigarettes or pipes but the Odenwälder Hannes is smoking day in, day out.
I’ve shared this shot before – but how could I not with this brief? The lighthouse of Roker Beach in Sunderland.
And here the same window – just to show what difference the right angle, different lighting and a different focus can do.
And now for something completely different: A white house hiding behind green trees.

I keep coming back to this room for its view. It’s in Sunderland overlooking Roker Beach with the Roker lighthouse in the back.
Directly on the beach is a different window – the way marker for the C2C route which is a cycling route from coast to coast, or sea to sea, from Workington in the west to Sunderland in the east. It is shaped like a camera aperture – a window we are all very familiar with if we use (or have used) actual cameras.
The Cosmic Photo Challenge: A Room with a View
I’ve featured this window before. I took the photo when visiting a friend and I heartily envy her this nook. The view is directly onto the lighthouse of Roker Beach in Sunderland. I ordinarily don’t eat breakfast and as I’ve often said: “I don’t do sunrises” but with this window seat I would change my routine just for the pleasure of sitting there and gazing out over the waves.
The Ragtag Daily Prompt: Window
I happened to be in Michelstadt im Odenwald a couple of days ago and came across this frame with the thieves tower behind it. It made me think of other frame installations I’ve seen in the past.

Ladenburg has frames like this along the walk through town to show what the area used to look before the walk was constructed.
This frame is from Leazes’ Park in Newcastle, behind St James’ Park of football fame.
Only a few kilometres to the east in Sunderland is this big shutter framing Roker lighthouse.
And the ultimate frame high in the Alps opposite this view:
The Eiger in the Bernese Alps.

Playing around with white balance.
And playing around with different hues.

Sailing in the late afternoon on the waters of the mouth of the river Wear.

The water glistening, the coast hazy in the background.
And now for something completely (?) different:

Sailing on the river Neckar where it is a mere 120 metres wide, with river cruise ships making the waterway even narrower, this guy showed some real acrobatics.
