Wow, Indeed!

“There’s one thing you can say for air pollution, you get utterly amazing sunrises.”

And I guess that goes for sunsets, too.

This is for Paula’s new challenge: Words of Wisdom. Find a quote and illustrate it with a fitting photo. Why not join her?

Discworld – How could I not?

Why do you go away? So that you can come back. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.
― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky

“I meant,” said Ipslore bitterly, “what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?”
Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.”

Death of Rats

The black robed figure, the scythe, the skull and the skeletal hands … the grim reaper. Except, this one is somewhat smaller and is actually not DEATH HIMSELF but the Death of Rats. It’s the Grim Squeaker, obviously.

For more information please visit any Discworld book featuring DEATH or Susan (any after Reaper Man, that is).

Friday Fun: Iconic.

Hand me that whatchamacallit!

If you read Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman you will know that there was a Sir Joshua Device, a Sir Humphrey Gadget, a Pietr Gizmo, a Cyrus T. Doodad and an Ella Reader Widget – they all invented “things so simple and universally useful that everyone forgot that they’d ever actually needed to be invented” and the utensils were named after them. I’m pretty sure that one of the thingies in my photos has been invented by Angus Watchamacallit, a Scottish inventor of (forgotten) renown.

Guess who’s coming to dinner?

Death of Rats - Reaper Man - Pratchett

I’ve been fooling around with toys and figures and I tried to combine this little crochet DEATH OF RATS with Terry Pratchett’s “Reaper Man”.  It ‘s not a good photo because of the shiny cover and the flash reflecting which is why I stopped on that day.

There is no justice.

cosmic spooky

K’lee and Dale have asked for spooky in their Cosmic Photo Challenge. This sculpture on a grave* is kind of spooky but I had to tweak the photo a bit to make it spookier.  Bright sunshine and lots of flowers don’t let themselves to spooky, no matter what the subject. The title is an echo of something that Terry Pratchett wrote.

*It wasn’t a real grave but part of an exhibition of graveside gardening at the national garden show in Brandenburg.
