I’m a Fan of Nesting Dolls

A few months ago I got this parcel in the mail, wrapped in pages of an old calendar, no sender. It had this craft set of stacking or nesting dolls in it: the Gruffalo, the fox, the owl, the snake and the mouse.

I finally managed to paint the wooden calipers or boxes once I found out who had sent me the gift. They came from a friend from the UK who knew that I was a fan of the children’s book. I’m a fan of the Gruffalo.

I’m a Fan of … #98.

Mighty

Mausefalle

Caught in a trap – and yet, he is a mighty mouse hewn from a mighty oak standing in our woods to tell the children about the time when he outplayed the Gruffalo.

Books

Zog

Last week Alex Scheffler, the artist who together with the author Julia Donaldson created The Gruffalo, was in our town to celebrate the beloved monster’s birthday.  He drew and read the book to several hundreds of children.  He also introduced their new book about Zog, a dragon who works with flying doctors, and a princess who’d rather be a doctor than just a princess.
