Five Wet and Wonderful Words

Nautical: A fishing boat in front of Roker Pier in Sunderland.

Splendid: In the 18th century the Mannheim Palace was larger than the palace of Versailles.

Refraction: A circumzenital arc (not a rainbow) or the sky smiling.

Selected: A sculpture in the spa gardens of Bad Dürkheim. He’s been selected and he knows it.

Familiar: How more familiar can you get than snuggling bum to bum?

This Time in Black and White

I’m a bit short on lighthouses in the middle of Europe, so I’m using some photos from 2015.

The Roker lighthouse in Sunderland as seen through the C2C (coast to coast) giant shutter.

Approaching the lighthouse from the south and approaching it from the north.

Having approached I stood directly underneath and had nowhere to go.

I’ve decided that it looks best from the shore, showing off its beautifully curved pier.

“And how do you rate the chances of the Boks?”

During the Rugby World Cup in 2015 we were in Newcastle for the match between Scotland and South Africa. This was on the day before and a team from the SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation) were happy to do an interview with a German supporting the Sprinkboks. We don’t know if this snippet was ever seen in South Africa or whether it landed on the cutting floor.

The Ragtag Daily Prompt: Interview.

Four years ago we were in the UK for the Rugby World Cup.  After the match between South Africa vs Scotland we were making our way from Newcastle to Edinburgh and stopping for a look see on Holy Island.  Now I am sitting at my desk and my husband is watching the Ireland vs Scotland game on the other pc – Japan is just a little too far (and a little too expensive).

They made it happen

The carpet salesmen

This gilded tribute to the three men who made Birmingham great,  – referred to alternatively as The Carpet Salesmen or The Three Wise Men – is the city’s thank you to  James Watt, William Murdoch and Matthew Boulton.  They certainly used a lot of gold.
