Look Back in Brevity

Reminiscing about the past year, I found many quotes meaning “never look back” (from such notable thinkers as Justin Bieber and the like). I don’t agree with this sentiment.

Then there were the quotes that “one needs to look back to go forward” from a quite few more renowned men and women. I rather agree – how can one learn anything without looking at it? – yet I’m also worried about stagnation and lack of drive.

And then I found this uncredited maxim:

It’s okay to look back at the past, just don’t stare.

Who is going to tell him?

“No one was badly hurt by the fire, but it went on for some hours, doing a fair amount of damage in the process.”

“The instigator of the fire lurked on a nearby hilltop and watched the blaze.  He was tall, thin, and a Duke of Hell.  It was the last thing that needed to be done before his return to the nether regions, and he had done it.”
