Every now and again you have to pass through a “péage” point. Wonderful bottlenecks on already congested roads (during holiday time). It is getting better – some routes are camera controlled (but you can’t wait until they bill you, you have to actively visit the website and pay within 3 days) and for the others there is the possibility to have a sticker on the car window and they will bill you monthly (you still have to go through those stations, though in faster lanes).

In Germany they discuss some kind of system to pay a fee for the use of the autobahn, so far it had never come to fruition. If it ever came it would be called: MAUT.
