On Sunday, there is the next Frankfurt half marathon. These are photos from last year’s race.

The roads are blocked off for the runners. Cars and police men on motorbikes clear the road just ahead of the runners.

The front runners are so fast, they are difficult to catch on camera.

Some seem to fly over the surface.

The first few hundred runners take little notice of anything around them, they just concentrate on the road.

The slower runners seem to have a lot more fun, smiling and sometimes even joking amongst themselves.

Some even acknowledge the cheering spectators and groupies on the side of the road.

And just before the end, well deserved nourishment and reward (aka: beer) is handed out to a selected few to help them over the finishing line.

Photo perfect for this week’s which way. 😀

So true about marathons and triathlons. My husband is one who leisurely enjoys the race…especially if someone has a camera handy. The little ham will circle back around so he can shake hands and tag people longer and if they want, take a photo. He definitely enjoys it, me not so much. I don’t do running.

We were cheering a friend (and everybody else who ran +/- 30 minutes of his speed) at the Frankfurt Iron Man in autumn. We had participants come up to us afterwards to tell us how much they enjoyed our support. Those were the 10 hours+ people of course, not the really competitive ones. Although, to do an Iron Man, I think you have to want to suffer.

It’s nuts, he did it twice. I think he was proving to himself that he was not too old. I think he was 50 when he did the first one. Then 2 years later, again. I don’t think he will do another one though. Very hard on everyone, he’s glad he did it though. He got lots of attention.

They weren’t front front runners, just out there to proof something to themselves. I prefer the 2 hours+ runners (from a cheerleader p.o.v.) 😀

I’m one of those people in the back of the pack that appears to be joking around and laughing. 🙂
