And this time I’ll add the portrait version of the same shot because it illustrates what a difference in perspective the format of a picture makes.
Whereas the square shot directs the viewer to the actual view beyond those narrow walls, the portrait version emphasises the path. At least, that’s how I see it.

Yes, I agree. An interesting observation. But I don’t agree with Sue that the square doesn’t work. It just achieves a different outcome.
