Many abbeys in Europe are famed for their breweries. On any given Sunday (particularly if the weather is good) there is a steady caravan of walkers, hikers, Sunday strollers aiming for the abbey kitchens to sample the hearty food and of course, the beer.

What a great plan. I don’t know that this happens here, though I do have a friend who cooks for Benedictine monks. They eat very well!

Just by chance, I visited an old church in Germany last year and that day they had a pilgrimage going on, it was fun
