Both figures were obviously inspired by the fifties, in the service of advertising.

And I quickly slip in this figure:

Do you think it’s still appropriate nowadays advertising chocolate and sweets with a display dummy like this?

    1. We don’t have gollywogs as such in Germany but this figure (or something close to it) was used as the logo of a chocolate company. They’ve changed it during the last years, keeping the costume but giving the figure a golden skin.

  1. You bring up a good point Elkie. First of all, the mannequin is adorable, probably the most of the three. But with racial tensions at an all-time high, it’s probably not a good idea to advertise products that are brown in color with a brown-skinned mannequin. Some women might be sensitive about the female mannequin as well. Both are stereotypical, but very cute.
