I’ve never seen a rainbow like this. It appeared yesterday afternoon while I was out and about with friends.
The smile hung in the air for at least 15 minutes.
Who knew that Mother Nature could paint like that?

Fabulous capture, not actually a rainbow but a circumzenithal arc, formed by light being refracted through ice crystals instead of water droplets.

Thanks for that information. We just stood and marvelled.

I looked it up and yes, there were two suns (a sun dog?) but this didn’t photograph well at all.

Unusual rainbow. I thought you manipulated the photo to create it until I read Dale’s description of it.

We were very perplexed. After reading up about it I found out that this phenomenon is not uncommon just usually so high that it can’t be observed on the ground (d’oh – that would make it uncommon, wouldn’t it?).
