A whole field of phacelia is not that uncommon, apparently it is used to let the soil recover after crops that have depleted the field of nutrients.
Bees and butterflies find this violet flower very attractive.

Wow, stunning shots, Elke 👏 Over here we tend to use rape seed fields for the same effect, & again, the bees love them 😃

We have lots of rape seed as well ( I can tell from the yellow dust on our car during the flowering time), equally used as a plant to improve the soil. The common name of phacelia in German is “beautiful tuft” but other names are bee pasture or bee friend.
