The Vine and the Rose

There is this small vinyard, eight rows in all, wedged between a barn and a residential area, barely 200m from our house. Each row of vine is of a different grape, and at the end of each row a different rose tree is planted. Some of them still carry blooms this late in the year.

    1. Roses were traditionally planted in vinyards because they need the same soil and general conditions as vines. But because they are more delicate they show problems and diseases faster than the vines. So they act as an early-warning system. – And yes, I know where to buy the bottles from this plot.
