I’m a fan of these kinds of bears but I’m terrified of the real ones. We had a family of bears cross over on the ice one spring to where our cottage is. For two years I didn’t go for walks in the woods because I was too afraid of encountering one.
I can totally understand that. We had a couple of bears in Germany a few years back. They came over the border from the Czech Republic. And were labelled “problem bears” and ultimately, shot, I think.
Thanks for understanding. Too bad they had to be shot but sometimes there are no other alternatives. I just found out that we have something called super pigs in the Prairies that are a huge problem. They are crossing over to the U.S. and creating a lot of damage.
The first “problem bear” (labelled as such by the then prime minister of Bavaria, Edmund Stoiber, and this has since become a familiar quotation) was the first bear in Germany in almost 200 year. He entered into a inhabited area, killing livestock and threatening people. At the time, all the specialists agreed that he had to go. Only afterwards did animal rights organisations complain.
Large bears in bars and shops do seem to be having a moment, don’t they?

What a world we live in where animals, in their natural habit, are labelled a problem & just disposed of like they are nothing at all 😢

Awesome gallery. I love bears, too! Until I saw this post, I had no idea I was also a big fan of large bears.
