was designed by Tomi Ungerer. He was a graphic artist and book illustrator, born and raised in the Alsace (a biography of him calls him an Alsatian artist which sound really odd). The fountain was to represent the duality of the Alsace with roots in France and Germany.

What an impressive fountain, Elke 👏 To me, an “Alsation Artist” is either somebody who draws Alsations or a dog that is an artist 😂

I know, right?

I had no idea that Toni Ungerer had turned his attention to sculpture. I wonder if he’s done any other pieces?

No idea, either. I think this was a special for his native area.

I wonder who thought to as him, as he’s not down as a sculptor?

Well, he is a “famous son” of Strasbourg. So maybe somebody approached him and asked about a tribute to him or to Strasbourg and it evolved from there. No idea, I’m just speculating.

There is a whole museum dedicated to Tomi Ungerer in Strasbourg. It’s on my to do list, or rather my “want and will definitely do soon” list.

I fancy that too!

I just realised I misspelled his name, it’s Tomi (from Jean-Thomas). I’ve corrected it.

I thought it was Tomi, but hadn’t even noticed you’d got a typo.

Tomi Ungerer, what else can I say. I wish we hadn’t been so rushed when we passed there.
